1st April 2017

The Band performed to a packed Church last Saturday which also featured the Junior Band.

MD Tim Sidwell once again presented a most varied and entertaining program which opened with a very well paced and detailed account of the popular Whit Friday March ‘ORB’.Following the overture ‘The Thievish Magpie’ Principal Cornet player Paula Spittlehouse gave a superb rendition of ‘Georgia on my Mind’

All in the April Evening’ was a most appropriate choice for April 1st and in total contrast was a very descriptive performance of ‘Ticket To Ride’---this really was very well done!

The Junior Band closed the first half and yet again pulled out all the stops with a confident presentation of several Alan Fernie arrangements including ‘The Rose’ and ‘Hey Jude’

‘Florentiner ‘ march opened the second half after which Solo Horn player Lisa Thorpe demonstrated some lovely solo playing in Peter Graham,s ‘A Time for Peace’

Two ‘fun’ pieces followed with the audience really enjoying ‘Hot Toddy’featuring the trombone section, and Shostakovich’s ‘Second Waltz’

One of the most ‘musical’ items of the evening, and so well played was the beautiful arrangement by Leonard Ballantine of ‘Mid All The Traffic’ which was a lovely quiet interlude before the powerhouse finale in Graham’s ‘Gaelforce’ which witnessed an incredibly loud but well executed contribution from the percussionists.

An excellent closure to a most delightful concert, yet again enhanced by the presence and humour of the MD --------------well done to ALL.
