MELTHAM METHODIST CHURCH CONCERT REVIEW  14th April 2018

Last Saturday the Senior and Junior Bands presented a most entertaining programme to a very receptive and appreciative audience opening with a stylish and very effective opener ‘Prismatic Light’, quite stunning, with further items in a well chosen programme including the popular cornet trio ‘ Bugler’s Holiday’ and the wonderfully moving ‘Lost Chord’

The Junior Band closed the first half playing ‘Two Swinging Spirituals’,’ A Night At The Opera’ ‘The Young Amadeus’ and an excellent performance of their most ambitious work to date ‘Cossack Ride and Slavonic Dance’

The famous Whit Friday Contest March ‘Senator’ opened the second half in style, followed by a lovely Trombone solo by Stephen Andrews in ‘In The Wee Small Hours’.

Musically, one of the most effective pieces in the entire programme I felt was Simon Dobson’s ‘Little Hymn’. Beautifully scored and quiet!

‘Disney Fantasy’ concluded a well balanced programme which was much appreciated by the large audience and the encore ’76 Trombones’ finally closed a fine musical evening!
