Last Night of the Proms - 11th Oct 2014 PDF Print E-mail

Last Saturday, 11th October, Meltham Band presented their annual L N O P Concert in the Parish Church. Although the poor weather impacted on the attendance, nevertheless a good and enthusiastic audience were well entertained by the band under M D Norman Law and Guest vocalist baritone Nigel Rothery.

The band opened with Verdi’s March from Aida followed by a real ‘golden oldie’ overture with Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algiers. Slaughter on 10th Avenue and Pately Bridge March were certainly crowd pleasers, and Dambusters March followed by Blow the Wind Southerly opened the second half.

Nigel performed in ‘solo’ and was joined in 2 brackets by Stephanie Ball {soprano} in presenting a welcome ‘humourous ‘ interlude. Jean Collison was their outstanding accompanist.

With flags at the ready, the audience joined with soloists and band in the rousing traditional Proms Finale to close a fine evening of music.
