Christmas Concert 2014 - Review PDF Print E-mail

Wed 10 Dec. St. Bartholomews Church

A horrendously wet evening did not deter a huge audience from attending the band’s Christmas Concert. The programme was naturally a mixture of carols and                   festive selections, and included two outstanding soloists in Paula Spittlehouse, cornet, playing Goff Richards’ Away in a Manger and Chris Farrington choosing the beautiful  O Holy Night for his euphonium solo.

M D Norman Law presented a most pleasant light-hearted programme with the only ‘serious’ work being my favourite The Kingdom Triumphant by Eric Ball.

Following the interval the Junior Band and newly formed Training Band performed admirably and with confidence, and Conductor Stuart was delighted to display some 22 young players on stage.

Two awards were presented with Alison Joinson named Senior Player of the Year,

and Ella McFarlane receiving the Junior Player of the Year.

The traditional Schneewaltzer brought a really lovely evening to a festive conclusion.

At the recent Meltham Christmas Concert it was with great pride that we all heard of the recognition of Mrs Elizabeth Morris in the Queens birthday honours with an OBE.

Elizabeth has been a long time supporter of the band, and has a long family history with Meltham band through her parents. Elizabeth was given here OBE in recognition of the fantastic work she has done in education and still is as the head teacher of the Netherton Infant and Nursary School.
